The Freight House Restaurant is “A must visit when in La Crosse.” This National Historic Site was originally constructed in 1880 as the Milwaukee Road Freight House. Keeping the history and railroad theme intact, it was renovated in 1978 and is the area’s premier steak and seafood restaurant. You’ll enjoy the friendly staff and warm ambiance with its’ grand timbers and lofty spaces of the main dining room and bar. Three other dining rooms are complemented with antique bars and fireplaces.
The menu ranges from slow roasted Prime Rib, selections of naturally aged Prime Beef charbroiled to your order, to Chicken and Steak Teriyaki, Seafood, Fresh Fish and a plentiful Vegetarian Platter. Seasonal vegetables are offered throughout the year and all meals are complemented by an appetizing salad bar. The extensive wine list features domestic and imported wines and offers many by the glass.
The bar is one of a kind with its impressive back wall filled with hundreds of liquors available, a large fireplace, and a relaxed atmosphere. Friday and Saturday nights offer a bonus with some of the region’s finest musicians appearing.
