30 Years Old and Still Growing
The Uniform Place came to be because a young mom with her husband and five children, had her first "uniform shopping experience". It was pretty close to being a disaster. She waited three months for her order, thought she paid too much, and no one at the store responded to her concerns.
Thinking over the experience, she was not able to forget how she was treated. A few months went by and she decided to try to do something about the problem. This mom did not have a business degree, she did not have overwhelming support from her family and friends, and she did not have a lot of money. The odds were against her. However the more she learned the more determined she became.
The doors to The Uniform Place opened in 1971 in a small 400 square foot building. Since that time it has grown considerably. The young mom in this story is now enjoying retirement. She is my mom. It is with a husband, two children, a great sense of pride of my mother's accomplishments, and a strong sense of customer service that I have eagerly taken over where my mom has left off. I often remind myself and my entire staff of why this business was founded. I am happy to make the claim - as I write this for my new web site - that some things will never change.
