A Room of One's Own Feminist Bookstore has been a fixture in downtown Madison, Wisconsin since 1975.
A Room of One's Own specializes in women's literature, and offers a wide selection of fiction, nonfiction, periodicals, music, posters, and t-shirts for and by women. We also maintain a great children's section and stock up-to-date titles in lesbian and gay fiction and studies, bisexual and transgender books. We also carry a variety of fair trade gifts and non-book items, including rainbow stickers, flags, and bumper stickers.
Room is happy to offer e-books through our new website! Simply search e-books in the box to the right, and proceed through the checkout process.
We are proud to be a central part of Madison's women's community. Our space has given us the opportunity to provide a meeting place, event forum, and safe spot for the community. We also provide access to information about housing, employment, counseling, workshops, and events of interest to women and the LGBT community.

I Thought You Were Dead by Pete Nelson
Submitted by Room on Sat, 04/24/2010 - 2:11pm
This is a short and sweet story, but it's one of my favorites for a number of reasons- It carries a depth of emotion, humor and creativity. It's not your typical "A man and his dog" tale: It is a study of a man's relationship with himself, his pet, and the world around him.
I Thought You Were Dead: A Love Story (Hardcover)

Bag in the Wind by Ted Kooser, illustrated by Barry Root
Submitted by Room on Mon, 04/12/2010 - 11:03am
Gorgeously drawn story of a plastic bag that gets blown through several stops before ending back up where it began. A great introduction to the consequences of littering and the importance of recycling for everyone. Perfect gift for the eco-friendly children in your life!
