Alcohol addiction (better known as alcoholism) is defined as the obsessive, uncontrollable, and persistent use of alcohol. Many alcoholics are “functioning” alcoholics, in that their addiction hasn’t affected their work life or relationships yet. Drug addiction is a chronic disease characterized by compulsive, or uncontrollable, drug seeking and use despite harmful consequences and changes in the brain, which can be long lasting. Drug addiction is also a relapsing disease.
