From Durand Blues Festival
Submitted by Steve Hanson on Sun, 08/03/2008 - 18:56
If you weren't in Durand on Saturday, here's a sample of what you missed at the blues festival. We'll have more pictures and video later. It was a great time, and if you weren't there you really missed out. This is Ellen Whyte with the always-impressive Sue Orfield Band.

Northwoods League Parks Ranked
Submitted by Scott Montesano on Mon, 07/07/2008 - 08:08
1) Carson Park Eau Claire, WI
This isnt because Im biased, but I truly do feel Carson Park is the finest stadium in the league for various reasons. It has a great view beyond the outfield of a civic park and hills in the distance. It has the best looking fan deck in the league. The sound system works well and the stone-faced grandstand gives Carson Park a true stadium feel. Ill say this, when I first visited Eau Claire it was in the Fall of 2005 and Carson Park was set-up for football. Even with bleachers stationed in leftfield, I still thought it was the prettiest park Ive ever been to.
2) Port Arthur Stadium Thunder Bay, ONT
A compact, covered 3,500-seat grandstand consisting of nothing but individual seats makes this a must-see park. The fan amenities are few, with a small seldom used party area down the leftfield line and few promotions. However, the park is very clean, sound system is perfect and sightlines by far the best in the entire league.
Chippewa Valley Man Running for President

Yes, that title is correct. At first I didn't believe it either--but then both WEAU AND WQOW reported on it, so I knew it must be true. :P
His name is Bill Ingram, and he is considering running for the House of Representatives to unseat Representative Ron Kind--just in case the "President-thing" doesn't work out.

The Leader-Telegram reports that Delta Air Lines will begin serving Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat. Sunset Wheat was first released in March of 2006 and is now available throughout most of the U.S.
This might change my mind when I book my next set of plane ticekts. I'm not sure about you?

"It's the ultimate goal for hockey players-- the Stanley Cup. Now, that cup is headed to Eau Claire!
"The Detroit Red Wings celebrated their win earlier this year, but Team Scout David Kolb wants to share the victory with his home town of Eau Claire. Kolb is a Memorial High School graduate.
"He'll show off the cup Sunday July 6 at Hobbs Ice Center, but that's all we know for now.

Its one of those discussions people have when its raining outside, or when TBS, TNT or any number of stations puts on one of those standby pastime flicks. Its a time-killer debate that has originated its own area of genrethe baseball movie. Going back nearly a century, baseball has been a prominent fixture in movies, with any number of them being released in a decade especially in the 1980s and 1990s. While the recent collection of flicks have failed to even touch the crest of immortality and have been quick to enter the $5 bin at Wal-Mart, there are still dozens of excellent.
So many good choicesso few bad ones that even debating the best is a topic one cant even decide upon themselves let alone with others. Hence, I want to go backwards with this and instead debate the worst baseball movies of the last twenty-five years. I use twenty-five, since I am 26 and its a more even number and since Im more familiar with these. Now at the on-set, I should day that Im still a fan of most of these as a bad baseball movie its like a bad piece of pizza. Its still comforting and some good can still be squeezed out.
2nd Annual Taste of Eau Claire Festival Lacks Any Asian Flavor
Submitted by bschmock on Sat, 06/21/2008 - 21:45
This years's Taste of Eau Claire Festival at Phoenix Park was, by all measures, a success. The Leader-Telegram, WQOW, and WEAU all pointed out that attendance was up, the food was good, and the weather was beautiful.
The charity that benefits from this annual event--United Way of Greater Eau Claire--was surely happy with the outcome. So too, I'm sure, were the other event sponsors, which included Volume One and WHYS 96.3 FM--Eau Claire Community Radio.
However, I walked away from the 2nd annual Taste of Eau Claire not COMPLETELY satisfied. Take a quick look at the 30 Vendors that had booths this year and tell me what is missing:
