Alliance for Animals once again participated in World Go Vegan Week - a time to make the word "vegan" a household word, universally recognized as meaning love and compassion for all living beings.
Watch AFA volunteer Hannah West talk about World Go Vegan Week on Thursday morning's edition of Wake Up Wisconsin! Hannah visited with WKOW's Elishah Oesch, who enjoyed Hannah's vegan Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins!
Many thanks to WKOW for airing this piece and to Hannah West for her early morning appearance!
Many people took a break from cooking and visited one of several Madison restaurants that helped us celebrate World Go Vegan Week. Among those that participated were:
The Roman Candle Pizzaria

Green Owl Cafe
Our Vegan Cupcake Giveaway at Unity of Madison on Sunday, Oct. 31 was fun and inspiring! AFA volunteers gave away over 100 vegan cupcakes to prove that vegan baked goods are delicious and delectible! We wish to thank Bloom's Bake Shop in Middleton for donating some of their baked goods for our gluten free friends.
There are several other local vegan friendly restaurants in our midst: Mother Fool's Coffeehouse, Supreme Pizza, Glass Nickel Pizza and 8 Seasons Grille. For more Wisconsin veg-friendly restaurants, go to VegGuide.Org.
Or visit our Simply Vegan website for information about a vegan lifestyle. Visit our Simply Vegan store at Cafe Press.

Spotlight on Former President Clinton
CNN's Wolf Blitzer talks to President Bill Clinton about losing weight and getting healthy. Clinton lost 24 lbs by following a predominently plant-based diet. In this interview he talks about the work of Drs. Caldwell Esselstyn and T. Colin Campbell - well worth checking out!

The Lost Dogs: Remembering the Michael Vick Dogs
Who can forget the Sports Illustrated cover story by Jim Gorant about the dogs that were rescued from Michael Vick's dogfighting business. This story received the most responses of any story that year.
Michael Vick has served his sentence and is back playing football, but let us not forget the dogs and the people who dedicated their lives to giving them a chance at life.
For more about this book go to The Lost Dogs and also to Bad Rap for compelling photos.
"The Lost Dogs should make some news; not just for animal lovers but for anyone pondering the human propensity for violenceand goodness. Library Journal

Alliance for Animals Thanks Local Businesses
Thanks to the hard work of our chili cooks, AFA volunteers, and dozens of local businesses, our "Best of the Best" Chilli Fest and Silent Auction was a huge success.
We would like to thank THESE BUSINESSES for their generous contributions to our silent auction.
Boycott Budget Bicycle
Go elsewhere to buy a bicycle.
If you're thinking about purchasing a new or used bicycle, please do not shop at Budget Bicycle (three locations) or Machinery Row Bicycles. According to Rick Bogle, owner Roger Charly duped him and other actictivists. Charly had promised to sell a piece of real estate--between the UW's Primate Research Center and the Harry Harlow lab--for a handsome sum. He used his false promise to them to parlay a deal for $1,000,000 with the university.
One who values dollars over innocent lives and endless horrific suffering is not to be trusted. Shop elsewhere, please. Even, let Charly know that you won't be shopping at his stores, and why.

UW Madison's Ethics
Researchers at the university have recently published findings and videos demonstrating what they claim is evidence of monkeys' self-awareness, but no change in the horrible things they do to them or the isolation they are forced to endure is being considered. AND, they have censored the videos to hide the hardware bolted to their skulls. Read Are Monkey's Self Aware?
