Grading Spaces helps homeowners make cost-effective energy upgrade decisons. We use state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and are trained in building science theory and techniques.
If you are thinking of remodeling your home, you may have a unique opportunity to make your home more efficient. An energy evaluation is a wise investment that will give you the information needed to make informed decisions.
An energy evaluation consists of:
Talking with you to pinpoint any problems or concerns you have about your home.
Performing a blower door test to measure building shell tightness.
Testing of your ventilation fans for proper operation (if you have any).
Assessment of your present insulation, both wall and attic.
IR scanning to reveal any hot or cold areas in wall or ceiling cavities (if temperatures permit).
Combustion safety testing of any natural-draft appliances (if present).
A detailed report that outlines any issues found and possible cost-effective solutions.
Advising you or your contractors as needed during any work that is done.
Return visit to re-test and document improvements after work has been completed.
Submit paperwork to Focus on Energy so you can get the relevant cash back incentives.
A warm fuzzy feeling knowing you are saving energy.
My charge for this service is about $375, and does vary depending on whether you have more than one attic or crawl spaces, have a particularly large home or have appliances that need the combustion safety testing. The rebates usually cancel out or exceed this cost, especially on older homes that need a lot of upgrading.
