Fall is on it's way in Washington County, New York and is a fun and exciting place to visit during the Fall months. Washington County is a neat conglomerate of farms, culture, history and the great outdoors including exciting Outdoor activities like picking your own apples. Outdoor Water FunThe Champlain Canal runs through the heart of Washington County, and ends at Lock 12 at the beginning of Lake Champlain. In addition, there is the Battenkill, The Hudson River , Cossayuna Lake and the best kept secret is that the most of the east side of Lake George is in Washington County. The many lakes and waterways provide swimming, motor/ boating, kayaking, canoeing, tubing and some of the best fishing in the North East. Covered Bridges
There are four covered bridges to visit in the south; The Rexleigh Covered Bridge, The Shushan Covered Bridge, the Eagleville Covered Bridge and the Buskirk Covered Bridge that starts in the Washington County. FarmingFarming is the number industry in New York State. Washington County leads the way with its many farmers markets, roadside stands and agricultural businesses. There are many farms that will give tours of their operations. There are Dairy Farms, Fiber Farms, Cheese Farms, Maple Producers and U-pick Orchards and Berry Farms abound. We even have a Farm Museum on the Washington County Fair Grounds.
CultureThere are many Washington County artists and artisans. The scenic year round beauty of the county draws them here to create. Washington County is home to artists that paint watercolors, acrylics and oils. There are several jewelry artisans and metal sculptures. There are wood workers and carvers. There are artisans that work in glass and many that work in fiberSummer Festivals are prominent here and many villages have '"music in the park". History
The County is steeped in the history of the French & Indian War, Revolutionary War, and the war of 1812. There are also performances and shows at our four theaters that are housed in historical venues. Meander along country roads while visiting historically intact Victorian Villages along the way. There are many museums and if history is your thing this is the place to be. In addition, most of our museums are open that tell the story of the history of the county. Dine at a unique restaurant, diner or cafe' or visit an artist or local artisan's studio or unique antique shop. Purchase locally made items or food. After exploring this extraordinary county treat yourself and your family to a stay at one of our cozy historic Inns or B & B. Washington County is located in the Capital Region. On the east side is Vermont and is a short drive from Lake George, Glens Falls, Saratoga Springs, and Albany. No matter what season; SUMMER, fall, winter or spring there is something to do and see in Washington County.
