• Prairie dogs live in "towns" with other prairie dogs. A prairie dog digs a burrow to live in. A burrow may be anywhere from 12 to over 100 feet long. Prairie dog burrows are much like your home with front and back doors, toilets, listening posts, sleeping quarters and storage rooms.
• The dirt from the burrow forms a mound with a hole in it. It looks like a little volcano. When they dig burrows, one stands guard while another digs. The mound keeps the rain out and prairie dogs can stand on it to watch for danger. Prairie dog homes are sometimes used by other animals like the burrowing owl and the black-footed ferret.

Meet Liberty, the Zoos New Humboldt Penguin Chick
The Milwaukee County Zoos most recent addition to the Humboldt Penguin flock, a female chick named Liberty, hatched July 4, is now on public exhibit.
Liberty can be seen swimming in the exhibit pool with her family, father, Jack, and mom, Eva. At hatching, Liberty weighed about 86 grams, and as of September 23, weighed in at approximately 3 kilograms.Zookeepers report that shes an excellent swimmer and can usually be seen swimming and diving in the outdoor pool, although she does have access to the indoor off-public exhibit areas when she chooses.
The last time the Zoo hatched a Humboldt penguin chick was in 2008.
Native to the coasts of Chile and Peru, Humboldt penguins dont have their adult feathers and coloration until theyre about one year old. Liberty has light and dark grey feathers; when shes full grown, she will have a black stripe on her chest, and a black patch from the sides of the eyes down to her beak.
During your next trip to the Zoo, be sure to visit Liberty!
