“I have helped individuals and couples with a wide range of issues for over 15 years, including problems with relationships and communication, depression, anger, self esteem, anxiety, alcohol/drugs, work stress, grief/loss, sexual compulsion/addiction (including with the internet), sexual orientation, health, overeating and weight, and trauma/abuse. My approach draws from various orientations, and emphasizes (i) listening well -- carefully, supportively, and empathically -- thereby helping clients feel understood and accepted, (ii) enhancing awareness of feelings, and understanding of how feelings interact with thoughts and behavior, (iii) identifying and challenging counterproductive thoughts; and (iv) encouraging related change and growth.
In my work with couples, I attempt to create a safe environment in the therapy office, via compassionate understanding of each partner's perspective; helping each person to better understand (i) her/himself, (ii) his/her partner, and (iii) relationship patterns; and supporting related changes in behavior and "dynamics".
I am an independent practitioner, not a large clinic. When you call, you reach my private answering machine. You can leave a message, and if necessary, call my pager (number provided in the answering machine message). I call you back; no receptionists or secretaries. Private, peaceful, quiet waiting room.”
