Owned and operated by a third generation of Manderfields, we take great pride in a tradition that began over 70 years ago. Voted the best Bakery in the Fox Valley 12 years in a row, we attribute this success to our sincere desire to please each and every customer who comes through our doors.
Our oven is yours, and we hope that once you taste the exceptional quality of our products, you will make Manderfields the home for all your bakery needs. Thank you for visiting us.
Our Customers are the best! Here is what some of our fine patrons have to say about us
"We went a couple miles out of our way because we wanted to get some treats! Mmmm...football cookies, a chocolate mint cake, and lovely coffee pastries LOADED with pecans. Everything in the bakery was superior in appearance and taste. Prices, very reasonable too. Your store is SO clean and beautiful! Taking a peak into the back I was stunned to see how shiny and white all was. Wow, very impressive." Michelle Minaker - Two Rivers
"I've followed the Manderfield's since they were on Melvin Street. They are positively the best bakery with
the best employees at both locations. Just keep in mind mega-stores are not the answer to good business. Keep going the way you are and people will patronize always. Alice Gregorius - Appleton
Their quality is far superior to anything else in the Valley. Their cakes and tortes are enough to make you gain weight just looking at them." Donald West - Appleton
Today, this third generation of Manderfields is teamed with a group of dedicated and talented employees who are committed to providing you with the finest baked goods and customer service possible. The entire family welcomes you to "Taste the Tradition" that has made them one of the most popular bakeries in Wisconsin.
Manderfields Home Bakery was introduced to the Fox Valley in 1934 by Frank and Marie Manderfield. After years of working in Brillion and Kaukauna, Frank began producing baked goods out of Marie's kitchen at their home on Melvin Street in Appleton. Since then, carrying on the family business has become a tradition for the Manderfield family.
In 1956, their son Dennis set out on his own to
establish Best Bakery in Menasha. Married to Lois in 1957, together they successfully operated the bakery for 16 years, and eventually had 7 children, a third generation of bakers. During this time, Frank sold his own shop and retired in 1964, leaving the Manderfield name unused. Dennis sold Best Bakery in 1972.
Inspired by their oldest son Mike's enthusiasm for baking, in 1979 they reintroduced the Manderfield
name when they opened Manderfield's Home Bakery
on the Southside of Appleton. Daughter Lisa helped manage that store until 1982, when she married and moved to Buffalo, NY where she and her husband
Marve operate their own Ohlson's Bakery & Cafe.
That same year, another Manderfield son, Paul, joined the family business, eventually becoming general manager at the location on Calumet Street.
In 1987, the business outgrew its facility, and a second north Appleton location on Ridgeview Drive was constructed to accommodate growing wholesale demands. However, in 1996, in an effort to give full attention to their retail customers, the Manderfields sold this bakery. The Calumet Street location quickly became overloaded with production. So that same year, capitalizing on their Best Bakery popularity, they reintroduced their product to Menasha, opening a store at 811 Plank Road. This facility was expanded in December of 1999, making it possible to bake at both locations. Son Jerry, who joined the family business in 1986, now manages that operation.
Dennis and Lois have begun planning their retirement and have turned over the corporation to sons Paul and Jerry. Recognizing the rapid growth in the Fox Valley, in November of 2006, the Manderfield family opened a brand new facility on Springfield Drive near Darboy, with twice as much production area, ample parking, and a coffee caf. Sadly the doors on Calumet Street were closed after 26 years.
