What do the Nisei veterans have in common with George Washington, Nelson Mandela, and the Tuskegee Airmen?
Well, if we all work together, the Nisei veterans will joins this select group of individuals who have been awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, which is an award granted by the US Congress that is, along with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.
The process of getting a Congressional Gold Medal (CGM) through the House and Senate is slightly different than that of a bill: a CGM must be co-sponsored by two-thirds of the membership of each chamber.

57th Annual Chrysanthemum Festival
Marissa Muraoka was crowned queen of the 57th Annual Chrysanthemum Festival on December 5, 2009.
The annual event raises funds for the AJA Scholarships, which are open to all Maui high school students, and to help with the historical preservation efforts of the Maui's Sons and Daughters of the Nisei Veterans... More about the Chrysanthemum Court.

Before joining us, Gail was Maui County Director of the American Red Cross.
