EXTRAVAGANZA!

COMMUNITY MEET'M EAT MORE THAN JUST A MEAL!

On October 27, around 65 people attended our first Community Meet'n Eat. During this time, we learned that, "a meal, whether at home or the one from God, is all about relationship" (The Lutheran magazine, November 2010, p.3). Peter W. Marty notes: A meal is more than a biological occurrence or a feeding station. Mealtime is an experience that helps us become more fully human. To gather around a table is to be open to the art of human companionship. It is to practice sociality and gain new understandings for how to sustain relationships.

NEXT MON'S NIGHT OUT - IT IS A CHRISTMAS COOKIE EXCHANGE

BOOK CLUB

The MLC Book Club is Tuesday, December 7; The book is "Dakota: A Spiritual Geography" by Kathleen Norris.

TWO OPPURTUNITIES TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONE'S LIFE

Pastor Phares Kakulima from the Karagwe Diocese in Tanzania was with us in early October to proclaim God's Word at our weekend worship. While here he related information about his niece and was wondering if we would be able to help her continue her education.
A second opportunity involves helping a family in Cambodia known by Kea and Meng Thikim. A friend of Thikims from Stoughton will be traveling to Cambodia on November 9th and Kea would like to be able to send some money with her to help out this very needy family. If you are moved to help this family, please make the check out to McFarland Lutheran and identify it for Cambodia.
Please be sure to read the entire article in next weeks Newsletter for more details.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THE NEXT FEW MONTHS....

Keep in mind the season of Advent (which comprises the four weeks before Christmas) starts on Sunday, November 28 this year. Advent is a time of preparation that has been observed in the church since 490 C.E.
The Wednesday Advent worship services will start on December 1 with the service at 11:00am and lunch to follow; and then at 5:00pm you may enjoy the Souper Supper before the 6:30 worship service.

BREAKING INTO GOD'S FUTURE

After praying, studying, listening, and discussing how we can live out the vision and mission God has for us, we believe God's mission for us is: Sharing God's Word Showing God's Love Serving God's World
More than 40 people participated in the first visioning workshop on August 7, and another 39 people submitted comments. On Saturday, August 21, council and church staff met to finalize wording and to set priorities. Our points of focus for the next five years, in priority order: 1. Provide a variety of dynamic and joyful worship opportunities 2. Equip and encourage involvement 3. Nurture and strengthen relationships 4. Encourage and expand ministry to youth and families
As we move forward, our mission statement and strategic focus will provide us with clarity and direction as we move into God’s future.
The executive summary captures the data gathered in the “Breaking Into God’s Future” Vision 2015 workshop that was held on August 7, 2010. This information was used to complete the Vision 2015 document at the August 21, 2010 workshop. Background information can be found in the detailed summary report.

Serving God's World
We hope this website will help introduce you to McFarland Lutheran Church. We are a wonderful mix of children, parents, grandparents, teachers, government workers, trades people, business people, homemakers, health professionals, artists and entrepreneurs claimed by God’s love through Holy Baptism. Some love golfing, some love hunting, some love fishing, some love camping, others love music, the arts and curling up with a good book.
We gather weekly to laugh together, cry together, and support one another as we worship, share fellowship, and receive training as disciples of Jesus Christ. We are sent from our gatherings renewed in faith to reach out and serve our neighbors both here and around the world.

Our new Confirmation program, Here We Stand, is ready to launch. Read the introductory letter that provides some background information. Get a copy of the registration form that needs to be completed prior to the meeting on October 10th or October 13th.
