Phoenix Affirmations – We’d love your input
Published by ORUCC under Blogroll,General announcements
Last summer, we had a sermon series on the Phoenix Affirmations – a set of affirmations written by other progressive Christians over the past few years. Now, we’d like to hear from you.
Many of you indicated how helpful and encouraging these affirmations were as you consider your own Christian faith and walk. Now wed like to gather a series of thoughts, stories and reflections from you on these affirmations. We invite you to respond in writing (a paragraph or two is enough) to one of the following questions. You may focus on one of the affirmations, or even a word or phrase in the affirmation.
Which affirmation(s) resonate with you and your own walk of life? Which affirmation(s) help articulate some of your own lived experience of faith? How does your own spiritual life come alive as you ponder one of these affirmations?
Wed love to hear from you! Here’s how you can share your thoughts with us:
Using this form – Affirming our Faith- which was handed out in worship – tell us how these affirmations resonate with your faith.
Join us for a ‘writing breakfast’ on Sunday, November 28 at 9 a.m. There will be good coffee, morning snacks and others with whom you can write and discuss the affirmations.
Email your thoughts to either ken@orucc.org or winton@orucc.org.
We’d love to put together a booklet of reflections.
Two more resources:
Excerpts from last summer’s sermons are available
Copies of the full sermons are available on the “sermon” tab to the left

Why did we install Rain Gardens
1. Rain gardens are a critical component in groundwater recharge, which is a major problem, especially in urban areas. Without groundwater recharge, aquifer levels and stream base flows are negatively impacted, particularly in the drier summer months.

Come and walk on water! Okay, so its frozen water! Where? On Green Lake where Pilgrim Center is located.
Pilgrim Center (UCC Camp at Green Lake) has been reserved again for our family/church winter retreat. Make sure to reserve January 14-16, 2011 on your calendars! Last year we had 14 families come on this retreat. We had guided activities in the morning, played outside in the afternoon which included walking or playing football on Green Lake and/or sledding. We played games and made crafts, had a karaoke party in the evening and then finished with worship on Sunday morning. A special invite to the Confirmation Youth and their families to join in on this retreat. There will be activities for children and youth through 12th grade as well as guided discussions for adults!
My God Loves Everyone (that’s kind of the point)
Last Saturday I sat on the Washington Mall during the Rally To Restore Sanity hosted by Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert from Comedy Central. Since there were 200,000 others there, I didnt get very close to the stage (in fact I only heard about 30 seconds of music at the end). What I did see, however, were thousands upon thousands of people having fun, relaxing, laughing and carrying some delightful signs all in an effort to proclaim the value of democracy, respectful dialogue, and restoring some humbleness to our political and social life in this country. One of my favorite signs was MY God loves everyone (thats kind of the point. I also appreciated Stewarts closing remark, We are in hard times, not end times reminding all of us to tone down the political rhetoric of hate and fear. Both the sign and the speech were helpful reminders that we have much to celebrate, much to appreciate in this life of ours.
