Soon they will be on the ground though... which means raking!
What a beautiful time of year to watch as the leaves change color and eventually start to fall. Although it means time for raking, it can be a great time of year to get outdoors and when done properly is a great way to get exercise all while getting a healthy dose of vitamin D. So here are some tips to for raking without hurting your back.
Make sure to warm up. This can be a brisk walk around the yard and gathering your supplies
As you are raking make sure to keep your knees slightly bent and step with the rack rather than reaching with your arms and back
Keep your head up and shoulders back. Good posture is always important!
When you do bend to pick of the leaves bend with knees, like a squat, rather than at the waist.
Take breaks to stretch and drink water
If you ever feel pain, make sure to stop. Avoid the five most dangerous words Maybe it will go away
If you feel unusual pain or pain that is not going away, consult with your chiropractor.

In March 2009 Foti Chiropractic became Webster Technique Certified
A specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that reduces interference to the nervous system and balances maternal pelvic muscles and ligaments. This in turn reduces torsion in the uterus, a cause of intra-uterine constraint of the baby and allows for optimal fetal positioning in preparation for birth.
Dr. Larry Webster, Founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association discovered this technique as a safe means to restore proper pelvic balance and function for pregnant mothers. In expectant mothers presenting breech, there has been a high reported success rate of the baby turning to the normal vertex position. This technique has been successfully used in women whose babies present transverse and posterior as well. It has also successfully used with twins. Any position of the baby other than ROA may indicate the presence of sacral subluxation and therefore intrauterine constraint. At no time should this technique be interpreted as an obstetric, "breech turning" technique.
